I hope that shed some light and addressed your questions and concerns. You wrote, “I do believe that together we all can make a difference for this cause.” You are making a difference, by sharing your story you are helping another woman who may be experiencing the same thing as you. You let other women know they are not alone, and that is so important. It’s therapeutic to share, wouldn’t you agree? I can’t cure hair loss, I wish I could but with my words I hope I am able to help some women through a very difficult time. I go on and on sometimes in my writing because I try and point out everything I wish had been pointed out to me at the beginning.

I know this is an old post, but the bit about estrogen affecting fat distribution is very interesting to me. I’ve always stored fat in my middle, even as an otherwise-skinny tween. I’m very happy with my weight otherwise, but the disproportionate belly-bulge worries me health-wise (and vanity-wise, of course). I’ve always assumed this was either an annoying personal quirk or stress-related, but I never thought about it being a hormonal issue. Maybe I should get a hormone panel done. Have you found a good silver-bullet way to increase/balance estrogen, or is it just as incredibly complex as everything else in the human body? Let me guess… 😉

It is suggested that bioavailable testosterone represents the fraction of circulating testosterone that readily enters cells and better reflects the bioactivity of testosterone than does the simple measurement of serum total testosterone. Also, varying levels of SHBG can result in inaccurate measurements of bioavailable testosterone. Decreased SHBG levels can be seen in obesity, hypothyroidism , androgen use, and nephritic syndrome (a form of kidney disease ). Increased levels are seen in cirrhosis , hyperthyroidism , and estrogen use. In these situations, measurement of free testosterone may be more useful.
